Melissa (my wife of nearly two years now) and I began yesterday our adventures in creating gumpaste flowers. There are few things I have ever seen that so well utilize both culinary mastery and beautiful illusion as gumpaste flowers. The medium of gumpaste allows for such a realistic texture and appearance of flower petals when worked correctly that a proficient artist can create a piece that could fool an untrained eye at distance. A master, as I have seen several times lately, can produce a work that is so similar to the real thing that without close inspection one would never know the farce presented to them.

Who I Am

If there is anything in my life you find me going crazy for (besides my beautiful wife Melissa) it is food and magic. No, not bologna sandwiches and top hats and bunny rabbits. Something much cooler. Think Food Network meets David Blaine. International explorations of modern gourmet food and modern closeup magic. Daily these things play into my life. Daily I dabble in both. When I find the time, these are the things I do.

I'm no classically trained chef. I am no Houdini. I'm not the best magician or the best cook. What I am the best at, with out exception, is something that nobody else can be. What I am cannot be explained in words. I am Lyle Borders. Welcome to my life. Let's get moving.
